Volcano phlox / Hot Tips

We all know that plants are dynamic, living things, and because we understand so much about our own plants (we carry out trials around the world) we appreciate the subtle differences regarding their growth and habit.

Which is why it’s worthwhile visiting the section of our site which gives you local information – which plants are available; when it’s best to plant, prune and feed them; tips and so on. It’s all here to help you enjoy them more.

Volcano phlox

VOLCANO ™ perennial phlox, more color and best disease tolerance available

Volcano phlox

New VOLCANO ™ perennial phlox, bushy, floriferous and best disease tolerant

  • For a massed - blow me away show - plant 5-6 plants in a large terra-cotta flat bowl and just watch the show
  • Want even more flowers? Once the first flush of flowers have finished, cut the top third of the stem off and the plants will reflower again.
  • Volcano® phlox are more compact than most perennial phlox making them great for larger landscape and commercial plantings. The free branching habit and short, strong stems will ensure plants don’t fall over providing masses of color from the large clusters of bright flowers
  • Remember when planting to space plants to improve air circulation, which will maximize the natural tolerance to powdery mildew. Also, to enhance natural disease tolerance, avoid overhead watering if possible, or water early in the day to ensure foliage dries quickly.
  • Lots of blooms means the plants like that extra bit of fertilizer that is high in potash, so add the one extra handful when planting
