Volcano® Phlox / FAQs

What makes Volcano phlox different?

Our bold new varieties actually began with the end of the Cold War, when Bartels Stek representatives were introduced to several old fashioned, highly disease tolerant Eastern European Phlox varieties. Through crossbreeding, they created the new Volcano series of fragrant, high flowering, multi-branching, compact phlox, with high natural disease tolerance.

How do I care for my Volcano phlox over winter?

In zones 5 and below, add some extra mulch (wood, chopped leaves, etc.) around the plants if snow-cover is not expected.  In warmer climates, make certain that it does not dry out over winter/cooler months.

Volcano Phlox 'Ruby' has smashing color, fragrance and early summer to fall bloom; it doesn't get any better than this. And the best news is the Volcano phlox paniculata series is mildew resistant. I've grown them for two years and they have been disease-free. The plants remain a tidy compact 24 inches high and don't require staking. With six colors to choose from, there is one for every garden. - Nancy Szerlag, master gardener, Detroit, USA
