welcome to SPRING...
We all know that plants are dynamic, living things, and because we understand so much about our own plants (we carry out trials around the world) we appreciate the subtle differences regarding their growth and habit.
Which is why it’s worthwhile visiting the section of our site which gives you local information – which plants are available; when it’s best to plant, prune and feed them; tips and so on. It’s all here to help you enjoy them more.
Flower Carpet ® SCARLET, one of the Next Generation Flower Carpet varieties with more vigor, color and disease tolerance
...a softer, more gentle season. There’s no question this winter has been a tough one. Every gardener out there has watched not only a cold winter pass, but in some places a wet one and in others, a drought. These days, you need to have some strategy to have a lush and healthy garden come mid-summer, and in the end, I’ve realized it all comes down to plant choice.
Pick beautiful plants that happen to be tougher than they look, and you won’t need to pull up those that don’t survive. Of course we all need to have a few tender treasures that we’re willing to baby through the toughest times. I keep these in pots so I can bring them in and keep them warm during winter or position them where I can get the water to them more easily in summer.
But most of my garden (which is surprisingly lush and green), is filled with resilient performers. I’ve Storm™ Agapanthus, the Festival Grass® cordyline, Tropicanna®, Tropicanna® Gold and Tropicanna® Black; the wonderful Bonfire® begonia, Volcano® phlox and ColorFlash® astilbe. But above all I have the best of all plants – roses.
With the little rain we had last summer, my wonderful Flower Carpet® Roses kept on doing what they do best. They covered themselves in flowers for months and are still looking great.
So if your garden ever looks a little battle weary at the end of the growing season, my advice is to get out there and cull those plants which have caused you worry or disappointment. Replace them with tougher options and sit back, relax and enjoy your garden again.

Flower Carpet ® PINK SUPREME, one of the next generation Flower Carpet varieties that are bigger, bolder and more heat tolerant
It’s happening right now – the spring 2008 release of the latest Flower Carpet® rose. Like all eight in the collection, the new Pink Supreme blooms its heart out spring through till the frost. Believe us, we’ve seen mature plants producing up to 2,000 roses per season. We’re also confident of the Flower Carpet series' natural resistance to black spot and mildew. Keep an eye out for Pink Supreme’s two-inch flowers, an iridescent pink with white centers.
