When garden writer Karen Dardick wanted to know what’s new with roses, she was sure to include two world-class experts, Anthony Tesselaar and Reinhard Noack. In her article in the San Diego Union-Tribune, “Breaking New Ground,” Dardick featured lengthy quotes from both on the present and future state of rose breeding.

“Flower Carpet groundcover roses rocketed the shrub and landscape rose category into the public eye a decade ago,” said Anthony. “Their immense success helped fuel the popularity of other rose introductions, including the excellent Knock Out series.”

“We're working to isolate the fragrance in a disease-resistant variety,” said Reinhard. “Color, of course, is also very important. Flower Carpet Scarlet, which was released in the U.S. this past year, is my own favorite rose, certainly my favorite Flower Carpet. I love the rich red color and the double flowers.”
