what we also do

Anthony Tesselaar International does more than just search the world looking for new and distinctive plants that are easy care and environmentally friendly – in other words, plants that thrive without fussing or spraying.

We also understand a great deal about water, and that due to various factors, it is a scarce resource in many parts of the world.

With less water, we’re acutely aware of the pressure that puts on our green asset – those marvelous and incredibly important areas in our cities which are leafy and green and also our own private gardens. These green and often colorful urban oases, which make a positive contribution to the well-being of all our communities, need to be valued and supported by clever water technologies and by informed plant choices.

This is what we’re doing to help make this happen...

We’re testing for drought tolerant plants:

to see how a plant performs with its standard water allocation: three quarters; half; and even a quarter of its original scheduled irrigation. Our aim is to identify those plants which are tougher than they look and by how much we can afford to reduce the amount of water we’re using. All plants we market have been tested for their ability to grow with minimum amounts of water.

We’re looking at grey water systems:

to make the most of what is becoming the water source of the future. And to do this we’re involved in working with one of the most innovative grey water treatment systems available in the world today.  Developed in Australia, they provide the purest, cleanest water available.

We’re involved with government and association bodies:

working with organizations and governments, we're promoting the value of the green asset: through gardener education, value of correct water use; proper plant selection; encouraging revegetation, and promoting carbon offsets. Ultimately, we’re engaged in helping find solutions to those environmental, economic and social problems that are linked to the green asset.

Thank you for your prompt response and good advice in relation to my question about my Flower Carpet Scarlet roses. I have a feeling this might be the start of a very rewarding relationship! Just LOVE your roses! They are absolutely beautiful roses - very healthy looking. I plan to buy more in the spring from the same nursery.
